What a Way to Go – Bike, Bus Expo

Climate Action Santa Monica (CASM) will host its fifth public forum, “What a Way to Go – Bike, Bus Expo,”  at the Church in Ocean Park.

Focusing on Santa Monica’s transportation revolution, the forum will feature a keynote address by Rick Cole, Santa Monica’s new City Manager on “Grand Overview of How Expo Revolutionizes How We Move in the City.”

Emceed by Belinda Waymouth, Environmental Journalist and Huffington Post writer with a Master in Environmental Studies from UCLA. Additional will presentations include William Selby, Santa Monica College Geography and Earth Sciences Professor on “El Nino and Hot Climate News,” Cynthia Rose, Director of Santa Monica Spoke on “Biking in Santa Monica and Santa Monica’s New Breeze Bike Share System,” Aimee Wyatt of Santa Monica’s Big Blue Bus system on “New BBB Routes and Expo Integration,” and Tom Jasmin and Stacy Yamato, Metro Rail Start up Manager and Metro Community Safety Director, on “Expo’s Safe and Far-Reaching System.”

Mayor McKeown & Council Member Pam O’Connor, will share important announcements about the upcoming Paris COP21 Climate Summit which they will be attending. O’Connor will be representing the United States as a member of our Delegation.

Denny Zane Executive Director of Move LA will be joining the program to discuss important future transit funding sources.

The program will include an interactive Transportation Festival between 12:00 pm and 1:00 pm featuring a parked Big Blue Bus, the new Breeze Bike Share bikes and live music.

Latest notice regarding continuous weekend lane closures on Cloverfield Boulevard for roadway improvements.

What:               Continuous Weekend Lane Closures for Roadway Improvements
When:              Continuous Closures: 

  • 7:00 a.m. Saturday, September 19, 2015 to 6:00 a.m. Monday, September 21, 2015
  • 7:00 a.m. Saturday, September 26, 2015 to 6:00 a.m. Monday, September 28, 2015

Work Hours:    9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., Saturday
Where:             Cloverfield Boulevard, between Olympic Boulevard and Michigan Avenue

Traffic Impacts:

  • Cloverfield Boulevard will be reduced to one lane in each direction throughout the closures.
  • Directional signage, electronic message boards and/or flagmen will be used to safely direct vehicles and pedestrians around the construction zone.
  • Parking restrictions will be strictly enforced at all times and signage with specific restrictions will be in place in all construction areas.

 Advisories: 

  • Local access to residences and businesses will be maintained at all times.
  • Noise levels will be monitored to ensure work performed is within compliance.
  • Please obey all posted construction signs and do not enter the construction work zone.

Expo Phase II Update

Join us for an update on Expo Phase 2!
As construction on Phase 2 of the Expo Line nears completion, the Expo Construction Authority invites you to a final construction update meeting. Stakeholders will receive an overview of remaining construction work and train testing activities, and will also hear from Metro staff regarding plans for system startup and transit safety education.

La Grange Brentwood Grand Prix: The Expo Ride 2

Join us on this FREE family friendly Expo Ride in collaboration with Velo Club La Grange and the race and festivities at the Brentwood Gran Prix

Day:       Sunday, August 2nd
Time:     9:30am – noon (aprox)
Place:    Brentwood Grand Prix (meet near San Vicente/Barrington)

The Expo Ride is a non-competitive community ride associated with the Brentwood Grand Prix Criterium Bicycle Race. The tour will visit the future Metro EXPO Line Phase 2 Stations in Santa Monica including Bergamot Art Center and the Terminus at 4th and Colorado, We will see the progress since last years ride now that the project is nearing completion!

We will make a brief stop at the new Tongva Park for refreshment & bathroom break before returning to the Brentwood Grand Prix along historic San Vicente Blvd. Wristbands will be given out to ride participants for rewards back at the Brentwood Grand Prix The goal of the Expo Ride is to get community members to come learn about cycling and multi-modal options on the West Side of Los Angeles, and particularly about how the Expo Line train can help get you where you want to go without a car. We “ride down memory lane” as we learn information about the historical RED LINE along our journey.

Join the community, show your support for more transit options in Los Angeles, and have a great time along the way!

We encourage you to Ride your bicycle to the event.  Bike Valet will be provided by SM Spoke / car parking is available at the VA Parking Lot, entrance on Wilshire Blvd. Please wear whatever is comfortable and safe, but ALL Participants MUST wear a helmet on the ride. Participants under 18 years of age must be accompanied by parent or guardian.
