The City of Santa Monica’s semi-annual Bike It! Walk It! Bus It! week encourages kids to be active, by getting to school using alternative modes of transportation. National Bike to School Day is coming up on: Wednesday, May 8th…
The Santa Monica Malibu Unified School District Elementary and Middle Schools will be celebrating Bike It! Walk It! Bus It! week between May 6th and 10th! Bike It Walk It is a community institution in Santa Monica that encourages families to try walking, bicycling, skateboarding and scootering to school. Students from the Santa Monica High School Solar Alliance hosted the inaugural event in 2007, and since then it has expanded to every school in the District.
The Safe Routes to School program is a partnership between the City of Santa Monica, the District, Santa Monica Spoke and the Parent Teacher Association to reduce traffic congestion near schools and promote health, safety, environmental, and community benefits. The Bike It! Walk It! effort supports community engagement through this environmentally friendly program. Please join SMMUSD as we bike, bus, scoot, skate, and walk to school!

Join us Saturday starting at 9:30 with coffee, bagels, meeting begins at 10am with and lots and lots up updates on bike, pedestrian and safety projects like Safe Streets for 17th, Take the Friendly Road Campaign with the goal of eliminating traffic fatalities by 2026, Santa Monica Safe Streets Alliance and more! Third Street Promenade’s Premier Dining Collective is next to the famed Criterion Theater. The Gallery, a state-of-the-art marquee food hall featuring unique, neighborhood-serving restaurants and a mix of indoor and outdoor dining space, including the Promenade’s only elevated dining deck.

Some employers, co-working spaces, and schools offer transportation benefits. Ask around about resources at your employer, co-working space, or school!
Allow for some flexibility in your schedule.
Give yourself a few extra minutes so you don’t have to worry about being late.
Map your route in advance.
Use Google Maps or the other recommended apps on smgov.net/gosamo to find out the best way to get to where you’re going car-free.
Make sure your TAP card is ready and loaded.
Pick up a TAP card at a nearby Expo station or the Big Blue Bus Transit Store to access all the trains, buses, and even bikes.
Try it out with a buddy.
Ask around the office to see if anyone wants to meet at a local Expo station or ask an apartment mate to take transit together to school or work.
