Portland returns to Santa Monica with the sixth annual Dinner & Bikes tour of the U.S.
Bringing people together to eat delicious food and get inspired about bicycle transportation.

We will again add our own special spin to the event with VEGAN CUPCAKES and SO MUCH MORE!

You’ll be treated to chef Joshua Ploeg’s seven-course gourmet buffet spread. Elly Blue and Joe Biel co-present a new interactive discussion and presentation that includes eight short films about groundswell movements where people have demanded better neighborhood conditions and successfully implemented them. Throughout the evening there are plenty of opportunities for discussion, questions, and browsing the Microcosm pop-up book and t-shirt store.

Metro presents: Santa Monica’s first Open Street Event: COAST

Bike, bus, train or walk your way to a free, engaging and fun way to explore Santa Monica. Enjoy two miles of car-free streets and discover local food, music, shops, culture, dance and games with family and friends.

This local event transforms our streets into a park for the day – with music, restaurants, shops, dance and games with family and friends.  Stroll with Samba dancers, picnic, and feel the breeze as you move through the streets!  Explore the interactive Coast Zones celebrating culture, sustainability and mobility, as well as other attractions along the route.

Visit Santa Monica Spoke in the Mobility Zone at the Santa Monica Civic. Katie Rogers of Carless in LA will be at our booth too!

The streets of Santa Monica belong to everyone — not just drivers, but people on bikes, pedestrians, and hey, maybe even hoverboarders. “Santa Monica certainly has a wave of transportation wonders taking flight. Like many cities they seem to be trying out a heaping of everything: bike share, a mix of bike lane treatments, a new rail line, neighborhood greenways, a pedestrian action plan (incorporating Vision Zero), a new people-friendly promenade/protected cycletrack where the Expo line terminates and of course they always have the hard-to-miss Big Blue Bus!

Just in the last six months they have launched both Breeze bike share and opened the Expo rail line to downtown Los Angeles which cuts travel times from an hour and a half by bus to 50 minutes. (Personal note: after spending the day shooting this story I endured a 2 hour and 15 minute bus ride back to L.A.’s Union Station. So at rush hour it can be even more tortuous than that!) The Breeze bike share was my first experience with the smart bike program and it was easy to use and comfortable.

So come see just some of the many options the city has employed to make getting around as easy as possible whatever mode you choose. Thanks much to the wonderful Cynthia Rose from Santa Monica Spoke who made my first visit there a joy by giving me the grand tour.”

More celebrating with Free ride time on Breeze Bike Share May 19th – 21st

Visit all three Santa Monica Stations, each is planned to be themed differently – Santa Monica Spoke is planned to be at all three stations. At 4th Street we’ll be moving about with the Big Purple Cargo Bike, at 17th and at 26th St/ Bergamot we will be in the Mobility Hub – Look for #GoSaMo.
This historic event is one not to be missed.

Local Station activities will be hosted at all three Santa Monica stations at 26th St/Bergamot Station (at Olympic and 26 th Street), and 17th St/SMC Station (at Colorado and 17th Street), and Downtown Santa Monica Station (at Colorado and 4th Street) from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. and fares will be free on May 21 on the Expo Line as well as on Big Blue Bus and Breeze Bike Share. Each of the new stations in Santa Monica will celebrate the opening and various locations will provide information about local transportation options, and encourage attendees to get out and about to enjoy local businesses and activities happening throughout the day.
