January HandleBar Happy Hour will be at Truxton’s American Bistro – Join us!
#HBHH

This month we visit Truxton’s, a Bike Local, Buy Local Business. They offer dine in service with a full bar, in addition to patio seating if you’d like to bring your four-legged friend(s). Their menu features a selection of seasonal specials that change every 3-4 months and specialize in take out and home/corporate delivery and catering. Vegetarian and Vegan options! Lots of bike parking on 14th.

Happy Hour extended for Bike Local group until 7pm

End of every month we like to get together for fun, support local businesses, and to celebrate all things bike.bike_local_sticker

For last months #HBHH we joined our friends at Bareburger supporting a food drive for the victims of the Ventura County Fire and a special Happy Hour Menu.

A Year of Monthly Rides & Walks with the Mayor
This will be our Anniversary Ride with the Mayor & CalBike!
…. but there’s more!

Not only will the Mayor and the City of Santa Monica Mobility Team be there, but we are excited we will again be joined by the Board and staff of the California Bicycle Coalition (who joined us on our very 1st Ride with the Mayor)…

But also another special guest – Jeffrey Tanenhaus of Countri Bike!!

You may remember Jeffrey and his Epic Cross County Adventure on a Citi Bike – We welcomed
Jeffrey and his Countri Bike with a Finish Line Celebration two years ago at the Santa Monica Pier.

On this Anniversary Ride we have a Trifecta! Santa Monica Mayor / CalBike / Countri Bike
— followed by a HandleBar Happy Hour “Brunch” #HBHH+B

Join Santa Monica Spoke, Mayor Ted Winterer, City of Santa Monica Mobility Team, California Bicycle Coalition and Jeffrey Tanenhaus for this 3x’s the FUN CELEBRATION!

Surely to be a day of fun and excitement, you’ll experience some of Santa Monica’s amazing bike infrastructure, maybe hear about new projects and if you like, chat with the Mayor, City Management / staff, CalBike or Jeffrey on a socially paced bike tour of Santa Monica to BRUNCH! The ride is around 3 miles along the Expo Bike Path and Colorado Ave – is planned to be less an hour in length. We will end our ride at the ‘top of the Santa Monica Pier for a “PHOTO OP” – then continue onto our no-host HBHH Brunch Social at Chez Jay.

Chez Jay became the social crossroads of an incredible cultural revolution that has impacted movies, television, music, art, politics and more. In recognition of its importance Chez Jay was declared a Santa Monica Historic Landmark in 2012. We will be in the new “Jay’s Landing” patio that opens onto the fabulous Tongva Park — “Jay’s Landing” offers it’s own menu to be eaten there or take out for a stroll in the Park.

January 2017 we led Santa Monica’s first official “Ride with the Mayor”
— Mayor Ted Winterer, City management, staff and The California Bicycle Coalition (CalBike) board and staff took a wonderful bike tour of Santa Monica. We are so happy CalBike is joining us again this year on the anniversary of our very first Ride with the Mayor!

Our local leader Cynthia Rose brings it all together as she is not only the Director of Santa Monica Spoke, she is also a Vice President on the CalBike board of directors as well as a former board member of the Los Angeles County Bicycle Coalition (LACBC) and the primary catalyst for LACBC’s Local Chapters with Santa Monica Spoke being the founding chapter way back in 2009.

December HandleBar Happy Hour: Bareburger

For December we return to Bareburger on Main Street and join in supporting the Ventura County Fire Victims food drive!  #HBHH

This month we return to Bareburger, a wonderful supporter and Buy Local Business. Bareburger’s mission is for love, service, and organic & sustainable food — with restaurants filled with foods we can pronounce. Our local proprietors Mark and Chris embody Bareburger’s reason for coming together — to make food that they can proudly serve to their community, friends and families with ingredients sourced as close to home as possible.

Barebuger celebrates ingredients that grow up the way nature intended. Their produce is free of pesticides and GMOs, poultry and eggs that aren’t limited to cages, proteins are grass-fed and humanely raised. Drinks are composed of natural flavors; coffee and desserts that are fair-trade. They are dedicated to great-tasting grub with no funny business and are committed to serving you nothing less than the highest quality meals and refreshments. Winner of the James Beard Foundation BLENDED BURGER PROJECT™ is but one of the many awards they have won and also include not one, not two – but THREE national accolades for their home made veggie (vegan) patty’s!!!
