Buy Local for our Schools
:  Did you know that any purchase you make at a Santa Monica business directly helps support our schools?  Last year, we collectively raised $8 Million for the SMMUSD just by buying local!

SUPPORT Buy Local.  If you are a Santa Monica business, click here to JOIN this free campaign.  If you are a resident, local employees, business owner or frequent local visitor, show your support for our community by signing the pledge.  If you live in Santa Monica, we’d also be greatful if you could take 3 minutes to complete the Buy Local SM Resident Survey to help inform Buy Local Santa Monica of the goods and services you need in town!

Bike Local, Buy Local – Eat/shop/play local by bicycle!  It’s fun, healthy and good for the environment…and it’s easy to do, thanks to all our great bike shops and Breeze Bike Share program.  Join us for our monthly #BikeLocalSM Handlebar Happy Hour events (last week of the month, check our Calendar for details!).  Organized in partnership with Buy Local Santa Monica to help showcase participating #BuyLocalSM businesses & the joy of bicycling!

January Ride with the Mayor and MORE!

CELEBRATION:
A Year of Monthly Rides & Walks with the Mayor
This will be our Anniversary Ride with the Mayor & CalBike!
…. but there’s more!

Not only will the Mayor and the City of Santa Monica Mobility Team be there, but we are excited we will again be joined by the Board and staff of the California Bicycle Coalition (who joined us on our very 1st Ride with the Mayor)…

But also another special guestJeffrey Tanenhaus of Countri Bike!!

You may remember Jeffrey and his Epic Cross County Adventure on a Citi Bike – We welcomed
Jeffrey and his Countri Bike with a Finish Line Celebration two years ago at the Santa Monica Pier.

On this Anniversary Ride we have a Trifecta! Santa Monica Mayor / CalBike / Countri Bike
— followed by a HandleBar Happy Hour “Brunch” #HBHH+B

Join Santa Monica Spoke, Mayor Ted Winterer, City of Santa Monica Mobility Team, California Bicycle Coalition and Jeffrey Tanenhaus for this 3x’s the FUN CELEBRATION!

Surely to be a day of fun and excitement, you’ll experience some of Santa Monica’s amazing bike infrastructure, maybe hear about new projects and if you like, chat with the Mayor, City Management / staff, CalBike or Jeffrey on a socially paced bike tour of Santa Monica to BRUNCH! The ride is around 3 miles along the Expo Bike Path and Colorado Ave – is planned to be less an hour in length. We will end our ride at the ‘top of the Santa Monica Pier for a “PHOTO OP” – then continue onto our no-host HBHH Brunch Social at Chez Jay.

Chez Jay became the social crossroads of an incredible cultural revolution that has impacted movies, television, music, art, politics and more. In recognition of its importance Chez Jay was declared a Santa Monica Historic Landmark in 2012. We will be in the new “Jay’s Landing” patio that opens onto the fabulous Tongva Park — “Jay’s Landing” offers it’s own menu to be eaten there or take out for a stroll in the Park.
Chez Jay: 1657 Ocean Avenue in Santa Monica, California

January 2017 we led Santa Monica’s first official “Ride with the Mayor”
— Mayor Ted Winterer, City management, staff and The California Bicycle Coalition (CalBike) board and staff took a wonderful bike tour of Santa Monica. We are so happy CalBike is joining us again this year on the anniversary of our very first Ride with the Mayor!

Our local leader Cynthia Rose brings it all together as she is not only the Director of Santa Monica Spoke, she is also a Vice President on the CalBike board of directors as well as a former board member of the Los Angeles County Bicycle Coalition (LACBC) and the primary catalyst for LACBC’s Local Chapters with Santa Monica Spoke being the founding chapter way back in 2009.

January 2017 Ride with the Mayor was joined by community members of all ages and the CalBike Board & Staff             — click image for flickr gallery
