Three yeas ago Santa Monica led by launching Los Angeles County’s1st public bike share — Breeze, presented by Hulu!
Congratulations Santa Monica and Breeze, & Happy Birthday #3!
With shared mobility rapidly expanding with new technologies — we congratulate Santa Monica and Breeze bike share for leading the charge by improving the built environment with safer more visible traffic lanes paving the path for expanding new mobility options. Shared mobility that is more environmentally sustainable, help reduce our carbon foot print, traffic congestion and single car trips —and support our growing network of public transportation and shared mobility options. #GoSaMo
Earlier 2018 Santa Monica, along with 3 other systems led again — rolling out LA’s 1st regionally integrated bike share — with Bike Share Connect! Bike Share Connect combined 4 independent systems into one regionally connected and seamlessly integrated network which spans across over 34 square miles, from Venice Beach to Hollywood and Highland.
With the ground work laid and the spark of new mobility lit – this past year we have seen even more mobility options launch — motorized scooters and e-assist bikes — with surely more to come. Find out more about Santa Monicas’ Mobility Pilot Program here.
The milestones are just beginning! Here are a few —
11/11/14 Santa Monica City Council approves L.A. County’s first public bike share system
10/13/15 City Council approves Hulu as Breeze Bike Share’s official sponsor
11/12/15 Breeze Bike Share launches with 500 bikes, 80 stations around town, and 5,275 combined users and members!
08/15/16 Venice opens its first Breeze Bike Share hub at 5th & Rose
11/08/17 Breeze blows by 1 million miles ridden and 1 million lbs. of Co2 averted
09/17/18 Share Mobility Pilot Launch The pilot program is designed to collaboratively and flexibly develop an effective regulatory model of these new shared transportation options to ensure compliance with applicable laws while promoting health and safety.
The Share Mobility Pilot is part of the Santa Monica City Council and our community’s shared strategic goal and commitment to promote a safer, more sustainable multi-modal city of the future. This also pairs with the Council’s adoption to implement innovative Vision Zero approaches to ensure public safety and work to eliminate roadway collisions.

Please Vote NO on Prop 6
Click image for more info on why #NoProp6
Prop 6 threatens thousands of jobs, your public transit system, your safety when you walk and bike, our environment, and our progress toward transportation equity. Please join us, the California Bicycle Coalition and the many local bicycle advocacy organizations that have taken a position, along with hundreds of other organizations across the state in saying no to Prop 6.
Just as we are making progress in our campaign to ensure the state always takes bike and pedestrian safety into account in transportation funding, Proposition 6 threatens to tear it all apart. If it passes, Prop 6 will cancel $5.2 billion in funding for desperately needed transportation projects repairing roads across California—thousands of them already underway. Thanks to this funding, the 2018 state transportation budget put a greater proportion of funding into transit, walking, and biking than any previous state transportation budget.
❌ #NoProp6 for equity in transportation and a greener, more sustainable #California!
You can support #CleanAir #CompleteStreets by voting 11/6!

100% Renewable Energy will be Santa Monica’s Default!
It’s Unanimous! On October 23rd, the Santa Monica City Council voted unanimously to have 100% renewable energy be the automatic option for all local energy customers.
Santa Monica is a member of theClean Power Alliance(CPA), a community choice energy program that will soon deliver renewable energy to customers across Southern California. CPA is offering 100%, 50% and 36% to customers starting in 2019. Each member agency chooses the default tier of renewable energy for its constituents. With councils unanimous vote last evening, — as staff reported — all Santa Monica residents will enjoy 100% renewable energy lighting up their homes and electrifying our world — local businesses to follow.
In Santa Monica, beginning in February 2019, our energy default will now be 100% renewable!
Thank you to Santa Monica for being a part of the Clean Power Alliance of Southern California, to implement community choice aggregation, so that decarbonizing our electrical grid will be the new normal as we advance carbon-neutrality and strengthen our resilience and commitment to our community and the environment.
The latest news from the United Nation’s Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change alerts us that we have twelve years to stave off increasing greenhouse gas emissions in order for humanity and Mother Earth to have the opportunity to heal and thrive. Santa Monica’s 100% renewable energy choice is another bold, confident and wise choice for a healthier more sustainable and resilient future.
You can view the video of the council decision to inspire and feel empowered that our leadership is committed to a more energy resilient and environmentally sustainable future.
