Santa Monica Bike Share Mobility Survey

David Fenn is getting his master’s degree in Urban and Regional Planning at UCLA with a concentration in Transportation. With the roll-out of advanced bike share and upgraded bike and pedestrian infrastructure in Santa Monica and the approaching opening of Expo Line Light Rail a sort of natural experiment presented itself. Bike share is often seen as a potential way to get people the first/last mile between a transit station and their destination. It’s also sometimes criticized as benefiting mostly the rich or serving tourists rather than residents. As a relatively dense, relatively bike-friendly city with lots of local jobs and a variety of destinations as well as new bike infrastructure and bike share, Santa Monica is the sort of best case scenario we might hope for to encourage people to consider bike share as an option to get around. With that in mind I’m interested in finding out who  is using Breeze Bike Share in Santa Monica, (and how) for what kind of trips, and who may be left out. I’m also interested in finding out how that changes after the Expo Line opens and a new high quality option for combined bike share and transit trips becomes available. Results will be shared in the hope that they help inform future improvements to the system and bike infrastructure in Santa Monica to get more people out of cars and onto bikes. Keep Biking!

Thank you for your interest, we and hope you will help us with this survey!
