Date: Sunday, April 3
Time: Meet at 9:30 AM; Ride at 10:00 AM
Location: Westwood Recreation Center – 1350 South Sepulveda Blvd., Los Angeles, CA 90025 (on Sepulveda Boulevard side of the park near the Aidan’s Place children’s play area)
This ride is an exploration of some of our favorite crosstown routes. When you are used to driving places on the freeway, switching to bike commuting can be a shock. What’s the best route? Which streets are really bike friendly? How can I avoid hills, dangerous intersections, etc. when getting from point A to point B? Planning a route from a bike map or Google maps is certainly an option, but it’s a lot more fun discovering routes with a group!
Led by LACBC Board Member Greg Laemmle, this ride will help you explore options for getting from the Westside to Hollywood Bowl, Dodger Stadium, and Downtown LA on a day when car traffic is a little lighter. This ride will also hit some key streets in new City of LA Bike Plan, where the addition of traffic calming measures or road diets could make a real difference in making Bike Friendly Streets even more friendly. Meet at the Westwood Recreation Center, and we’ll ride through Beverly Hills, West Hollywood, Hollywood, Echo Park, and MacArthur Park (with a lunch stop at Mama’s Hot Tamales). Return through Hancock Park (via 4th Street) and Beverly Hills.
Length: 28 miles. Estimated to last 4 to 5 hours including ride, food, and rest.
Difficulty: For all riders, including beginners. Ride is relatively slow paced, and if you get tired, easy return via Metro 704 (Echo Park and Sunset) or Metro 720 (Wilshire & Alvarado).
What to bring: Water and snacks as you see fit. Tools and tubes recommended. Dress accordingly. Also bring money (for food and possible bus fare), helmet, bike lock, and sun screen.
Weather: Heavy rain cancels the ride, but with light rain or a drizzle, the ride will go on!
Sunday Funday Rides are free and open to LACBC members plus one guest. Interested in becoming a member? Visit our membership page (www.la-bike.org/membership) or become a member at the ride at a discounted price.
To RSVP or if you’re interested in volunteering as ride marshal, please contact Carol Feucht, Membership Manager, at carol@la-bike.org.
