Santa Monica Open Street: Coast this Sunday!

Metro presents: Santa Monica’s first Open Street Event: COAST

Bike, bus, train or walk your way to a free, engaging and fun way to explore Santa Monica. Enjoy two miles of car-free streets and discover local food, music, shops, culture, dance and games with family and friends.

This local event transforms our streets into a park for the day – with music, restaurants, shops, dance and games with family and friends.  Stroll with Samba dancers, picnic, and feel the breeze as you move through the streets!  Explore the interactive Coast Zones celebrating culture, sustainability and mobility, as well as other attractions along the route.


Visit Santa Monica Spoke in the Mobility Zone at the Santa Monica Civic. Katie Rogers of Carless in LA will be at our booth too!

The streets of Santa Monica belong to everyone — not just drivers, but people on bikes, pedestrians, and hey, maybe even hoverboarders. Come visit the Mobility Zone for great music, free bike repairs, information on Santa Monica’s revamped bike lanes, bike share and redesigned bus system, Our bike rodeo, a helmet decorating, and so much more. And did we mention there will be ice cream?

•   Francie Stefan, City of Santa Monica Mobility and Transportation Manager will share updates on Santa Monica’s Open Street Event, Pedestrian Action Plan, the City’s Mobility Initiative and the completion of the new Colorado Esplanade and opening of EXPO light Rail and Bike Path.
•   Michelle Glickert, City of Santa Monica’s Bike Coordinator will give us Bike Action Plan updates and request your ideas and input on next steps. Projects: Green Lanes and Bike Technology Demonstrations, MANGo. Brief updates on programs like SRTS and bike ed classes and events.

We invite you to join us for the first Brompton Meet Cute Urban Bike Tour for all LA based Brompteneers and fans of the urban lifestyle.
Saturday, October 17. We meet  9:45am at Clover Park (adjacent to the parking lot across from the Breeze Bike Share Station). We’ll take a 10 mile ride of the bike friendly urban landscape in Santa Monica and arrive at Aika around 11am for a casual English high tea, snacks and videos and more….

Dress your part, after all you might have your meet cute moment! Come on your Brompton, if you don’t have one yet and would like to participate you’re more than welcome. Ride your own bike or if you’ll need a bike, Aika could help you out as well, just e-mail them ahead of time. We hope to see you there!

CicLAvia: Celebrates 5 years & the 15th event at Heart of LA

CicLAvia Heart of LA 10/2015CicLAvia – Heart of LA will celebrate what has become a Los Angeles institution on October 18 from 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. with a fifth-year anniversary route. CicLAvia began as an idea with an uncertain outcome when it first removed cars from the streets of downtown Los Angeles on October 10, 2010. Now, five years, fourteen events and hundreds of thousands of participants later, CicLAvia is the largest open streets event in North America.

Heart of LA will have six miles for participants to explore by bike, foot, skateboard, wheelchair and other non-motorized traffic. The route will take people through Boyle Heights, the Arts District, Little Tokyo, Civic Center, Chinatown, Historic Core and as far west as Macarthur Park.

  • It’s FREE!
  • It’s not a race and you don’t need a bike to participate. You can walk or skate to your heart’s content.
  • There’s no beginning or end. You can start anywhere and go as far or as short as you want.
  • The flow of participants goes both ways, just like regular traffic.
