December HandleBar Happy Hour: Bareburger

For December we return to Bareburger on Main Street and join in supporting the Ventura County Fire Victims food drive!  #HBHH

DAY:      Wednesday
DATE:    December 27th
TIME:    5pm -8pm (HH $)
PLACE:  Bareburger, 2732 Main Street, Santa Monica, 90405

This month we return to Bareburger, a wonderful supporter and Buy Local Business. Bareburger’s mission is for love, service, and organic & sustainable food — with restaurants filled with foods we can pronounce. Our local proprietors Mark and Chris embody Bareburger’s reason for coming together — to make food that they can proudly serve to their community, friends and families with ingredients sourced as close to home as possible.

Barebuger celebrates ingredients that grow up the way nature intended. Their produce is free of pesticides and GMOs, poultry and eggs that aren’t limited to cages, proteins are grass-fed and humanely raised. Drinks are composed of natural flavors; coffee and desserts that are fair-trade. They are dedicated to great-tasting grub with no funny business and are committed to serving you nothing less than the highest quality meals and refreshments. Winner of the James Beard Foundation BLENDED BURGER PROJECT™ is but one of the many awards they have won and also include not one, not two – but THREE national accolades for their home made veggie (vegan) patty’s!!!

Last month HBHH tied into a SaMovember fundraising event – this month we are joining our friends at Bareburger supporting a food drive for the victims of the Ventura County Fire.

Please join us, bring non perishable food (not canned*) to donate to the victims of the Ventura County Fire Victims and get access to a special Happy Hour Menu.

*Examples are pasta, dry beans, peanut butter etc. (canned food limit has been met).

Update: Santa Monica Airport

Last Tuesday Airport2Park was up late at a City Council meeting advocating for more parks and a new Parks Master Plan which would include the 12 acre Airport Park Expansion and ultimately a Great Park to replace Santa Monica Airport when it closes at the end of 2028.
The agenda item was passed!

On the very next morning our community and neighbors were rewarded with peace and quite for the first time in years with the airport is CLOSED for runway shortening. Additionally now a federal judge this past Monday dismissed a case challenging the agreement between the City of Santa Monica and the Federal Aviation Administration regarding the immediate shortening of the runway at Santa Monica Airport and the closure of the airport after 2028. Have you noticed how quiet it has been? We sure have!

The runway shortening process will create a runway safety area where there is currently none to make our community safer. This current temporary airport closure will last until December 23rd to complete construction. When the airport reopens this will exclude some of larger jets from using the airport and move the runway’s ongoing harmful impacts 750′ away from people’s home. Though obviously there is more to be done, we are excited to see this step in the right direction .

One next step is to continue the process by advocating for the City Council’s vote to remove all the excess asphalt at the ends of the shortened runway and replace it with grassy open space that could include pedestrian and bicycle paths.

This is yet one more in a series of important step towards repurposing SMO into a future Great Park that EVERYONE can enjoy.

We continue to stand with Airport2Park.

For now — Enjoy the peace and quiet!
