LA has it’s first CicLAvia, DON’T MISS IT
Los Angeles hosts it’s very first CicLAvia
Where the streets are closed to cars and “OPEN” to people!  On Bikes, Skates, Rollerblades, Skateboards, Strollers, Wheelchairs, Walking, Running, Unicycles, Tricycles, …….. you get the idea!
SO MANY events in the streets and all along the route. Â Come and celebrate open space where people can relax and play, without cars.
Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa and Councilmember Jose Huizar will kick off CicLAvia at Hollenbeck Park at 10am. They’ll be sending off the kids and LACBC rides! Villaraigosa plans to bicycle the entire 7.5-mile route!
Find a group ride to CicLAvia here or find bicycling, transit, car directions and parking here
Gary Kavanaugh will lead a ride out at 7:30am from the Santa Monica Pier (by the Cannon) to join up with Damien Newton of LA Streetsblog to make a group pilgrimage East for CicLAvia from Bikerowave
What is CicLAvÃa?
Inspired by CiclovÃa, the original, weekly street closure event in Bogotá, Colombia, CicLAvÃa will work to address five core pressing issues present throughout all of Los Angeles: Public Space, Public Health, Community and Economic Development, and Pedestrian and Bicycle Advocacy. As a recurring free event, set for the same day/time every week or month, CicLAvÃa will allow for the temporary closure of interconnected routes throughout the region, creating a web of public space on which residents of Los Angeles will be able to walk, bike, socialize, celebrate, and learn about new cultures and neighborhoods. Similar events have successfully occurred in other US cities, such as Portland, New York, and San Francisco. Bogotá’s CiclovÃa has also inspired copycat programs in Mexico City, Guadalajara, Quito, Ecuador, and Melbourne.
